| Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer... |
The only heir of a pair of wealthy dignitaries, it would appear that Ratsami has an awesome life. Very few would guess that the reason he rarely appears outside of his familial estate is the fact that he has no choice on the matter. Currently under the influence of an over possessive and controlling family friend, Ratsami dreams about exploring the world. In between studies, he daydreams in his head about venturing outside and seeing what's up. Maybe one day he will...And when he does, he's going to need allies in the big scary world...

Today was the day. Today was the day. That was his mantra, ever since he managed to slip away from his caregiver's estate, out into the busy streets of his hometown. He wandered all over the place, cane clicking softly in front of him to guide his steps, smiling like a kid in a candy shop. At one point, he was quite literally a youth in a candy store, seeing as he found his way to the market district. It hadn't taken very long for the shopkeep to convince him to spend a good deal of his allowance on confectionary goods, some of which were shoved into his travel knapsack, while he munched on the rest. Popping a bonbon into his mouth as he continued on.
That had been earlier in the afternoon though, and now he was getting tired. Time flew by, and while he couldn't tell what hour it was by the position of the sun given his disability, the change in temperature that came with the setting sun definitely told him he had been out later than he meant to. Ratsami thought he had properly retraced his steps from the market district to get back home...But if that was the case, he should've felt out the gate to his caregiver's estate by now. To make matters worse, trying to correct his course only caused him to become more lost. His heart, which had previously been beating a rapid staccato against his sternum out of excitement, was now nervously fluttering in his chest as fear set in. Although he wasn't exactly eager to go back home, seeing as he spent so much time cooped up there, he was sure as the hour grew later that his caregiver would be home and the man wouldn't be pleased at all...
Inhaling slowly, Ratsami paused to rest against a nearby wall, leaning his cane against it. He smoothed out the winter cloak he was wearing and fussed over his hair a bit before tugging the hood further down over his head for extra warmth. "Right...It's time to go home..." He murmured to himself, in an effort to bolster his courage and self-confidence, and straightened himself up. Retrieving his cane, he set off again. Unbeknownst to him, he was traveling farther and farther away from his desired destination. While the change in atmosphere and noises around him did tip him off to something being not right...He figured if it was getting late then of course people were settling down and heading indoors. Such was his life experience, as his days ended rather early due to having an enforced bedtime.
This quiet stillness only made the approach of distant footsteps all the more distinct, causing the blind diplomat-to-be to pause in his walking and cock his head in the direction of the sound. Well, if someone was around...Maybe he could ask them for directions? There was also the smaller, rebellious part of him that was excited at the mere prospect of conversation with someone besides his parents, tutors, and caregiver.
"Hello...?" His voice lilted out uncertainly.

sapphire hued eyes studied his surroundings with unease gracing his features. tension riddled his frame as he hovered in the shadows of the expansive, imposing slab of stone that the raduga kingdom heralded as their savior; however, valère viewed the inanimate structure as his prison. apprehension caused his heart to pound erratically in his chest. he felt like the organ might burst from his chest at any moment, for he swore that the rapid palpations caused it to collide with his bones that created his fragile frame. for him, stepping into the city of chrysós signed his death warrant. no one sought to murder him during his restless hours of unconsciousness, and no one wanted to discover his whereabouts for potentially beneficial information. however, the city appeared to him as a grim reaper, waiting menacingly before him as a sentinel of his demise.
when the blonde discovered his nearly depleted supply of empty vials and of preserved food, he nearly dissolved into a panic attack, for he loathed the idea of subjecting himself to the stifling atmosphere of the kingdom. yes, the walled cities terrified him. valère could not comprehend the gracious attitude that inhabitants of the sheltered kingdom awarded the towering walls. they acted as restraints in his mind, locking him into a monotonous and meaningless existence within the cramped and bustling cities, and he lacked the fortitude to subject himself to that life. the silver clansman preferred to subject himself to the unpredictability of the shadows, realizing that his survival hinged upon his own abilities and believing that the wilderness offered him the freedom that he craved.
however, due to the necessity of maintaining his stock, the fair haired male resigned himself to his fate, so over the course of the day, he traversed the distance between himself and the capital of the raduga empire. zöld offered a diverse selection of merchandise; however, his destination—chrysós—boasted of a business that catered to his needs at a lower cost. his refusal to deal with the walled cities meant that he was constantly saving and scrambling for gems, and when he found himself in possession of the local currency, valère forced himself to enter the walled cities, restocking his supplies without paying attention to whether he needed the items or not. it was an endless process that he grew weary of within the first decade of his existence after his king’s death. he led a wearisome existence.
an intake of air allowed him to ground himself in reality, and he forced his feet to move, lifting the dead weight with unprecedented resolve. he could easily slip in and out of the city before the guards denied him the opportunity to return to the shadows; he merely needed to hurry. with a shuffling gait, valère stepped over the threshold and found himself observing the few stragglers that continued to meander in the area near the celestial gate. they reminded him of busy bees, who moved with purpose toward their chosen destination. a sigh caused his shoulders to shift minutely as he continued forward, leery of arousing suspicion from the guards stationed next to the gate.
his forward momentum, however, halted by the soft sound of someone calling out to him. sky blue tinted eyes shifted away from the beaten path to study his newfound companion. his hood cast shadows over his features, but as he continued to watch the youth, he realized that the protection was unnecessary as the child’s eyes never settled directly upon him. hello, valère greeted in reply, voice resounding in a soft, soothing lilt. paranoia stopped him from lowering his guard as he pivoted to face the youth. can i be of assistance? the inquiry escaped him without his notice though he did wish to assist the fair haired youth that dared to capture his attention. it went against his nature to ignore the obviously troubled individual. ♡

The voice that graced his ears was gentle and quiet, and was rather soothing to the blind youth. You could tell a lot from a voice, or at least Ratsami thought so -- and this one didn't sound like it belonged to any gruff hooligan or anything else that would be dangerous. So he relaxed slightly, inhaled with relief, and turned a little more in the direction of the speaker. Summoning up a friendly and polite smile, he gave a small bob of his head. "Yes, hello...Um...I hope I'm not bothering you too much but...I'm a little lost..." A little was an understatement, really, but he was trying to avoid admitting how badly he screwed up. He was going to have enough of that when he got home, he was sure.
Chancing a few steps forward, cane clicking lightly in front of him. His free hand raised to fuss over his cloak a little more, tugging a bit at his hood...He was going to be lucky to not catch cold by the time he finally made it home. "Um...I'm trying to find the residential district...I could have sworn it was around here somewhere but um...I apparently got turned around..." A bit of nervous laughter escaped him, his milky gaze trailing to the left of where he heard the other's voice. "So, I was hoping you might point me in the right direction, if that's okay...?" sky blue hued eyes disappeared behind pale lids as valère forced himself to continue breathing. terror weighed heavily upon his petite figure as he anticipated the moment of his own breakdown, for each passing second heralded the arrival of buried memories—incidents from a past that he refused to acknowledge when prowling through the murky darkness of the shadows. outside of the protected environment of the cities, one could not afford to be lost within their own thoughts as that painted a target sign upon their back. one wrong movement spelled their early demise due to the lurkers that lived outside of the imposing structure that residents of the raduga kingdom deemed as their silent protector.
due to their fallacious peace, the people of raduga tended to forget about the lurkers that awaited their opportunity to pounce upon their prey. they believed that they resided in a world without pain or fear until news of a lurker attack reached their doors, and in those moments, they merely retreated inside, pretending to be oblivious to the world and portraying themselves as naïve, uncultured fools. with a deep intake of oxygen, valère forced himself to reawaken to the present, dragging his attention from his own raising fear and focusing upon the youth that dared to shatter the silence of the area. a tension hovered over the space due to the proximity of the lurkers. the gates acted as the doorway between the oppressive naïveté of the raduga kingdom and the unpredictable shadows.
pale lips quirked into a barely noticeable smile as the other’s voice washed over him. he noted the fragile frame of the youth and wondered how the young noble managed to evade being captured by the ruffians that waited in the shadows. perhaps chrysós lacked the presence of dissenters, for from the younger male’s tone, he had traversed a sizeable portion of the city. pale eyebrows furrowed as white teeth pressed harshly against his lower lip. his desires warred against each other in his heart. he wanted to hurry and flee from the city—which was the embodiment of his nightmares; however, the blonde could not bear to abandon ratsami, who dared to seek the aid that he required while stranded in an unfamiliar locale.
with a resigned sigh, valère surrendered himself to his fate. please, he began in a soft murmur, words tumbling from his lips as he lowered his guard. i don’t mind assisting you, but i’d prefer… less formality. his feet shuffled awkwardly against the cobbled ground as he shifted his weight, nervously clutching at his cloak as he lowered his gaze—unable to meet the sightless eyes of his companion. but… i’d appreciate a name as it’s a bit of a walk to the residential area. pale hands fluttered uselessly into the air, fingers twitching frantically as his nerves presented themselves in unconscious movements. uhm… i’m zaffre. he paused self-consciously while lowering his hands. and you are? RATSAMI APICHAI i hope that actually gave you something to work off of. i think i just rambled for a majority of it. mi dispiace. ♡

In the brief moments of silence as Ratsami waited for a response, his mind wandered. His caregiver often filled his head with well-woven tales of how dangerous the world outside of the familial estate was. So far, it hadn't seemed that bad, but the blind youth was an impulsive thing, often captured by his imagination, and there was short burst of worry that he had made the wrong choice. It was there, then gone though, his spurt of fear quickly assuaged by the quiet way in which the stranger spoke. That was one of his faults and one of the reasons why he shouldn't be outside, he was sure 'father' would chastise him for when he got home...He trusted too easily...But...If he let himself fixate on what was going to happen when he got home, he'd make himself sick with fright, and so instead he bottled it all up and pushed it aside to focus on the moment.
"Oh...!" Ratsami breathed out, the syllable followed by a small, nervous laugh, "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to be rude...I was just...I've never been this lost before," Or truthfully, this far from home, but he couldn't really admit that right now... "I'm Ratsami Apichai," This he offered with a small bob of his head, "It's very nice to make your acquaintance, Mr. Zaffre--or--oh--just Zaffre, then...um..." Here, with a sudden burst of enthusiasm, he jut out one of his hands in the man's general direction, "Instead of bowing and things we should shake hands, right..? I'm sorry though I'll probably need your help a bit..." A sheepish expression crept over his features, "I can't really judge distance, so..." Coded by Mura of KXK
