| 2/2 | HISTORY INVENTORY SKILLS ROLEPLAY SAMPLE |
THE CLOUDWALKER TRUE NEUTRAL ● KING ● GREEN CLAN -- Little dove, little dove, why do you cry? It is not the burden of Man to recall the history of their existence. Your stories will be rewritten and your memories will all fade into nothingness. This is the way of the world.
A little baby girl with beautiful hazelnut hair was the last thing a low-blooded family of eleven needed in their lives. She was just another body with another mouth to feed. She wouldn't even be the last. Being rather unremarkable, her life promised to be no more significant than a speck of sand in a vast desert. Truthfully, that prospect did not sit well with her, but she has no means of escaping her own blood.
Her family lived as fishermen by the sea, only occasionally sending a few of their children inland to sell their catch at a small market stall in the city. The city, though, was highly unpredictable place which sported plenty of petty conflicts between the undifferentiated clans. It was only a matter of time before their fish stall got caught in the middle of it all. Even at the time the events all seemed like a blur, but Aneszka did remember a man engulfed in flames being taken down by a bolt of green lightning. That lightning likely saved her from a brutal death by burning.
Suffice to say, her parents decided to limit their sales to more local, safer markets, therefore no longer sending their children into the city. Aneszka went along with this for a time, but she felt as if she was just fading away. What would happen to her when she died? Sure, her soul would go to heaven, but what mark had she made on this world? What was the point of living in it if she was less notable than a shadow?
She ran away one day, hiding herself in the carriage of a brief guest of their humble abode. It was dangerous for a little girl all on her own in a big city, especially a clueless little girl asking anyone and everyone she came across about the clans. The Green Clan found her before she found them, initially suspicious of her intentions. Regardless, her earnestness did eventually win them over, allowing her the opportunity to join them.
As they guided her through adjusting to life in the city, she became particularly close to a male clansman not much older than herself. After a few years, it was clear that they were practically inseparable, drunk in each other's affection. He taught her how to navigate the city and how to wield a blade, often sparring in the secret crevices of the metropolis.
Unfortunately, the joyous news that she was bearing his child was soon followed by tragedy. In an assassination mission which was supposed to be simple, her lover was killed by hired guards, an unexpected threat. Heartbroken and furious, she took up the quest which he had failed and, perhaps foolishly, slit his throat. At the time she had not understood the full potential of her aura's power, so her first physical transformation was driven by the unrestrained fury in her cracking aura.
She -- now a he -- would only realize later that the developing fetus had been absorbed by his body during the shift, leaving him forever unable to have children of his own, regardless of the gender and health of his form.
-- There's blood on the walls and blood on the floor and blood on your hands and blood on your soul. Careful, little rat, or you'll drown yourself in your own sins. One life was not meant to pour a drowning pool so deep as yours.
Lord Gavin was the head of a well-off and relatively influential family. His life was orderly. Predictable. Stable. He hadn't expected to go insane.
It's hard to describe what it feels like to slowly realize that you've turned into the person you most despise in the most literal fashion imaginable. His family noticed that he had become deeply troubled, but he kept his thoughts and feelings to himself, well aware of what happens to people who lose their minds. On one hand, he cared for his family dearly, but on the other, he wanted to destroy everything that he had built -- or, rather, what the owner of this body had built.
He stayed with them for years, acting as their father while restringing the political threads which the noble had tugged on so nonchalantly prior to his death. But he couldn't stay. He didn't want to die as a backstabbing old man. By this time, he realized how he had gotten himself into this situation, and was betting that similar actions could get him out of it. It wasn't difficult to request an assassination mission; this was a time when the Green Clan had no shortage of people they wanted killed.
The people who died from the silent blade were traitors, backstabbers, and, for the most part, individuals in legally and morally questionable trades. The little girl who had once been in control of her life kept getting pushed aside and crushed into the back of their subconsciousness, now practically replaced by those whom they had murdered. They didn't question it anymore, whether or not what they were doing was "right" or "wrong". Those were simple words for children and fools. This was how the world worked. This was how you harnessed true power, for nothing was more true than death.
They began killing outside of their contracts, often not making contact with their Clan for years, if not for over a lifetime. As it began to seem mundane to kill, the sadistic nature of their acts grew. At its peak, it was no surprise that they would decide to kill a child.
-- Splish splash splish splash. That crimson hue which you loathe will never wash from your feathers, little cardinal. The stain has become part of you, eternal.
Erik didn't have parents to comfort him when the nightmares began to plague his sleep. He didn't have anyone to talk to when he began remembering blood all over a grown-up's hands that somehow felt like his own. He didn't have anywhere save to go when his stray thoughts began to scare him.
It was only a matter of time before he caused a scene in front of some city guards. Strictly speaking, he wasn't arrested since he had done nothing wrong, but anyone could have seen that the child was clearly disturbed. Determining this to be a problem more suited to the spirit of the divine rather than the laws of man, he was sent away to a monastery.
The monks were kind enough; they expected much from him, but he would eventually earn a spot in their brotherhood as an equal. He would only accept that his bloodstained dreams, recollections, and urges were truth many years later, though he swore to himself that he would change. He would make himself better -- stop destroying the world and begin to heal it.
One lifetime was not enough to compensate for his countless lifetimes of wrongs; perhaps no amount of lifetimes would be enough, but Erik felt like he had to try. When his current life had been nearly spent, he took the face of a terminally injured patient on their deathbed, ultimately leaving the monastery and starting a new chapter in his series of lives.
He began to dedicate his lives to learning and helping others, even reconnecting himself with the clan he had joined so long ago now that they had become focused in the creation of new inventions for the kingdom. He even began to advise some of the Green Kings, his lifetimes of experience making him a valuable asset.
When he was known as the name Gladwyn Breos, he witnessed the death of two Green Clan kings. The first was more expected than tragic, as he had led a long and prosperous life before his Sword of Damocles began to reach a dangerous point of decay. That king's successor, however, was just a young boy, hardly old enough to be considered a man. His body was weak, only made functional by the power of his aura.
For the few years the child reigned, Gladwyn tried to protect him from the people who aimed to use the boy king for their own purposes. He tried to give him a life that wasn't shackled by immeasurable burdens. But his body and his powers were weakened quickly, and he asked to die at just 16 years old. Of course, the man who was his closest advisor and his father figure sat by his side when the Blue King at that time was given the grim task of ending his suffering.
Gladwyn would never say that it was a mistake to get so close to a king, but he did consider his consequent rise to power more of a curse than a gift. He had always considered his life renewable and, perhaps in optimistic foolishness, had believed that he could simply cheat death for eternity. But now the sands of his hour glass were falling, and a massive sword would henceforth hover far above his head to remind him of the inevitability of his end.
Fortunately, he had no great need to use his powers beyond changing forms, allowing him to considerably postpone his ultimate death.
The time spent as Malei, the identity assumed after Gladwyn, was most notably spent bolstering the prosperity of Zöld, maintaining some semblance of peaceful balance in the kingdom, and falling hopelessly in love with another clansman. The one whom Malei called "Habib Alby" would stand by their king's side for decades, and even survive through the most recent transformation into Khulai Lovel.
-- I am you and you are I. The killer becomes the killed, little king, and the tale is told anew. The paths from which this spirit's forged are not just one but two.Khulai -- the original one -- was born and raised in a gypsy caravan. He had a love of travel and incredible wanderlust, but the city of Zöld held a special place in his heart. If he could call anywhere a home, that would have been it. As he got older, he finally introduced himself to the local clan, meeting their king, and, ultimately, joining their ranks. He felt as if he could be more free with them than even when alone in the wilds. He was quite close to their king, despite the considerable gap in age, from enjoying similar hobbies and having a shared love for art. Malei took the form of Khulai after the boy died from an infected wound received from a lurker in the Shadows. He has since continued to advance Zöld through the Green Clan and his influence in the King's council. | TIMELINE aneszka BIRTH Part of a large fisherman's family with no noble blood.

» INVENTORYBow & Quiver of Arrows Really, who in their right mind goes hunting with a sword? Khulai doesn't get a thrill from up-close and personal combat, especially up against unpredictable beasts beyond the wall, so he tries to avoid it whenever possible. Although he has considered using a longbow rather than a standard-length bow in the past, its large, cumbersome nature would interfere with his ability to move as freely as he does. | Sword & Offhand Dagger Unfortunately, ranged weapons aren't so useful after your opponent already closed the distance between you. When in close combat, Khulai holds a long sword-breaker (which, to be entirely honest, is designed to catch swords rather than break them) in his main hand and a spring-loaded trident dagger used to parry or catch oncoming blades in his offhand. | Journal(s) When exploring the wilds, Khulai will draw and write about what he finds there. He tends to carry at least one of these leather-bound journals on him whenever he travels, even inside the walls. They include notes and sketches on plants, animals, buildings, people, and usually maps illustrating the general geography. Naturally, he brings writing implements to add to his written knowledge. | Medical Kit No amount of weapons or armor will guarantee a person complete protection from serious injury. This unglamorous leather pouch includes bandages, a miscellaneous collection of herbs and ointments, and other assorted materials used for patching up wounds. |
» SKILLSRebirth Although this ability does not allow Lai to be literally born again nor to rise anew from the ashes of death, it does give him a means to reinvent himself and cheat death in the process. In essence, he completely changes his body to reform into the form of another's. The change is extensive, including aspects such as the person's youth and even brain alterations; aura abilities are the only things that don't seem to be affected at all. However, the change cannot be reverted, since this new form becomes Khulai's "true" body.
There are, of course, a few unfortunate drawbacks to this ability -- perhaps the most notable being that Khulai can only steal a person's face at the exact moment of their death; as he changes, his aura sparks and chars the template's remains. Since he often develops some aspects of their personality, this often leaves him with quite the moral conundrum when there aren't any healthy, goodhearted individuals on the verge of death at his disposal. Immediately after the physical changes occur, Khulai forgets himself, overwhelmed and consumed by the memories of the other. For a few weeks after the change, he will wholeheartedly believe that he is the person who died. But then, steadily, his memories and knowledge will begin to return, sometimes subtly and other times in sudden bursts triggered by familiar perceptions. It generally takes many months at the least for him to even righten his identity, but the memory loss is never completely fixed. He will continue to recall forgotten memories and knowledge throughout the life of his new body.
[As an OOC technical note, this ability does not exempt this character from paying the cost of an info or FC change in the Ravenstouch Shop] | Recharge The electric spark of the Green Clan's aura is powerful enough on its own, but Khulai has found that it is much more useful and energy efficient to use it to transfer power.
Although he cannot mimic another individual's specific abilities, he can absorb or redirect the power of any strain's, lurker's, or clansman's power by establishing one or more wirelike connections of erratic green energy between himself and his intended source of energy.
This both bond weakens the abilities of others' auras and fuels his own, essentially using his target as a battery. Alternatively, if he chooses to not absorb the energy for himself, he can send it back out through another connection to assault another target.
It should be noted that this ability is only compatible with energy borne from the Dresdan Slate; he cannot drain physical, chemical, or any other sort of energy. |
Here he was again, laying with his back flat against the cool shingles of the tallest rooftop in Zöld, staring up at the midnight sky. He could understand why the Gold Clan was so revered, having their domain enveloping the entirety of the world. It was grand, but distant. Seemingly untouchable.
But Khulai had watched the movements of the stars, the moon, and other celestial bodies of the heavens. He had tracked them, he had drawn them, plotted their positions on graphs and maps. As with all things, there were still unanswered questions, but there was also a definite pattern -- a predictable movement. To him, this fact was more fascinating to him than knowing that the heavens were moved by some divine entity; the way their world spun through space like clockwork gears without something going catastrophically wrong was absolutely spectacular.
After taking a moment to stretch his arms above his head, he used them to rest his head. It was a warm summer night, made tolerable only by the cool salty breeze blowing in from the docks. The sensation was soporific, and the king quickly found himself dozing off to the slow, lulling waltz of the stars.
"Oh, Darling, what are you talking about? Just remember me, and I'll always be with you. You already know I'll keep you in my heart until the ends of time."
The voice flowed through Khulai's mind like honey, but when he awoke from his dream, the details of the event scurried to the dark crevices of his brain. He couldn't even tell if the person had been a man or a woman, let alone who they were. The wrist of his clenched hand pressed against his forehead in frustration as he tried to remember. He knew it wouldn't work. Every time the memory of his dreams vanished, it just felt like desperately trying to grasp at a handful of falling sand. And yet he tried regardless. He hated knowing that there were giant holes in his memory, and likely entire lifetimes he had forgotten, but what concerned him the most was how easily he had forgotten the people -- important people whom he had loved or who had touched his soul in ways that had forever changed him. The people who knew in this life would be like that one day... their vividness turned into nothing but a shadow.
"Damn," he huffed under his breath, letting his arm fall to the side as he gave up on identifying the mystery voice. The sun was just rising over the horizon, gracefully painting the sky in warm hues. The light promised a new, beautiful day. He couldn't let the ghosts of his past hold him back from the people and the action in the present.

The cloudwalker THIRTY-FOUR (PHYS.) ● MALE* ● UNKNOWN » ALIASHe has been known as an endless number of names over an endless number of lifetimes. The most relevant of these would be: Aneszka - his birth name Malei al-Zeben - the previous king of the Green Clan Khulai Lovel - his current name; some simply call him Lai » SEXUALITYHeterosexual panromantic It should also be noted that his preferences often vary from body to body » ALIGNMENTTrue Neutral, leaning in the direction of chaotic good » POSITIONKing Khulai has been the Green Clan's king for the past three generations. Before this, he was a trusted advisor, and before that he was simply a member and assassin for the clan. In all of his lifetimes, he has held his clan in high regard, treating the other members as his own vibrantly unique children rather than generic pawns. In the spirit of individual freedom, which this clan embodies, Lai will give suggestions and advice, but mandates how they live their lives as little as possible. Whether they be inventors who create or assassins who destroy, he will find a place for them in the clan if they desire it. » THE LIKESDiscovery, travel, new ideas, the arts, dynamism. » THE LOATHESClosed-mindedness, squandering potential, stagnancy, being lied to, forgetting. » OCCUPATION(S)Artist. Khulai is a multitalented individual with a deep love for many artistic forms of expression. When he isn't writing stories and poems, he's likely composing songs on his oud or creating a lively painting. He happily shares almost all of his creations with the world, sometimes even without pay. Life passes too quickly to trap the ideas expressed by art beneath a darkness which can only be broken by dull coins and cold gems. Scholar. After living for so many years, Lai is brutally aware of how little humanity knows about the mechanics of their surroundings. He views himself as a student of the world, aspiring to learn as much as there is to discover in the records of Man and in the mysteries of nature. Whether the subject is physics, astronomy, language, natural science, medicine, geography, or any other enlightening topic, he takes time to observe, comprehend, even contribute a bit to the collective pool of humanity's knowledge himself. His advisors often chide him for traveling beyond the wall to discover things about the vast and largely unknown wilds, often drawing up maps and taking notes on the flora and fauna as he traverses the dangerous lands. He heavily encourages and supports the people of his clan and of Zöld to become educated or, at the very least, literate, since he doesn't believe knowledge does any good when confined to just one person. Inventor. Combining the practical aspects of education and the creative freedom of art can result in some fantastically innovative creations. Many of Lai's ideas never make it beyond whimsical sketches on paper, but from time to time he does create some unprecedented new device.

When let free, the long strands reach down to the small of his back. His calm eyes are a vivid brown hue similar to that of his skin. » DISTINGUISHED FEATURE(S)Like the rest of his family, Khulai has a rich, dark skin which is dissimilar to the majority of Raduga's citizens. In most cases, it feels like it's natural to be a man when he has a male's body, and natural to be a woman when possessing a female's. There have been some exceptions in the past, but his current body (male) is not one of them, so he goes by masculine pronouns. For what it's worth, the body he was born with long ago was, in fact, female.
